- A genuine guru never hankers for profit, adoration, or prestige
by Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Gosvāmī Māhārāja
In service, all that remains is a desire for the happiness of one’s iṣṭa-deva. And one can never serve guru without serving the Vaiṣṇavas. The Vaiṣṇavas, or servants of guru, are like Śrī Gurudeva’s own limbs...

Some people attempt to acquire heroism through karma; some strive to fulfill other desires; some others (jñānīs) strive to culture knowledge of brahma; yet others (yogīs) strive to accomplish oneness with God. But we know that worship meant for attaining dharma, artha, kāma or mokṣa is a mere pretence. These forms of worship are only connected with base selfishness...

If I think ‘I am a Vaiṣṇava’, I will never stop hankering for pratiṣṭhā (prestige). That desire for prestige will soil my heart and I will be set on the path to hell ...

In order to reveal to the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava society the intrinsic nature of pure devotion (śuddha-bhakti), the sequence of its appearance, bhakti’s self-manifesting nature and her unfathomable glories, he who is most worshipful and the best among the rasika Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava ācāryas, Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura, has composed this unparalleled, sacred volume entitled Mādhurya-kādambinī. Śrīla Cakravartī Ṭhākura is one of the prominent and effulgent pillars in the line of the śrī rūpānuga Vaiṣṇava ācāryas, or spiritual preceptors in the line of Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī.
It is only by tasting the rasa of the ocean of His sweet pastimes that the topics described in this Mādhurya-kādambinī are realized. By regularly putting into practice, with devotion, the topics in this book, the sādhaka- bhakta can easily traverse the various obstacles to bhajana, such as aparādha and the desire for wealth, worship and prestige, and achieve prema. In this way, by relishing the mādhurya of Bhagavān, his life is forever blessed and fulfilled. Of this there is no doubt.

Today I want to discuss the subject of Tenth Canto Srimad-Bhagavatam. There has been some confusion in this regard. A preacher from India came and told something that we don't agree with. What he told is not written anywhere in sastra. I think that you should wash away your doubts and be clear about this...

All jivas (spirit souls) have a special relationship with Sri Krsna. Some are related with Him in the mood of friendship. Others have a relationship in the mood that "Krsna is my son," and that is called parental mood (vatsalya). Moreover, some have the mood that "Krsna is my beloved." All jivas have their own original, eternal relationship with Krsna...
You Cannot Bluff Guru

I have previously explained about the duties of disciples. I explained that guru-nishta is the backbone of bhakti. Without guru-nishta, no one can have any kind of devotion. One may have taken initiation, but if there is no nishta, he is inferior to a person who has not taken initiation and has not had a fire sacrifice, but is actually following guru. I have seen and realized this...
The Appearance Day of Srila Bhaktivedanta Vamana Maharaja

Vamana Maharaja is very grave and quiet, and there is another special quality that he possesses: I have seen many people, myself included, who give explanations from the scriptures and enjoy taking praise from others for it. But having known Vamana Maharaja for almost fifty years, I have never seen him do this, not even by accident. He is also very tolerant...
