The purpose of this Sloka book is to help the devotees study, remember and meditate on çlokas. Slokas are pathways to the spiritual world. Memorizing and meditating on slokas is an integral part of our sadhana-bhajana. Hearing and reciting them create spiritual impressions which help one to make progress in bhakti. The slokas of the Bhagavatam are not merely words on paper; they are all transcendental personalities, and each and every çloka has its own svarüpa (personal form and nature). Slokas are conscious and, like the Hare Krsna maha-mantra, nourish our bhakti and are ‘food for the soul’. Therefore, one should not try to master the slokas as if they were a mundane object of knowledge. Rather, one should approach them with humility and affection, coupled with a mood of service, just as one would approach Sri Guru. When we develop a little affection for someone, we naturally become interestd in them and they become interested in us. It is a matter of relationship (sambandha). Similarly, As we pray to the slokas and meditate on them, we develop a relationship with them. As this relationship becomes deeper, the slokas gradually unfold and reveal ever-new realisations. They become familiar like dear friends, walk into our hearts and enrich our spirtiual life with a higher taste. ( Please note the chapters are not in order in enclosed PDF file, however, you can search for page numbers. A new file will be available in December 2010 ).

Sri Raya Ramananda Samvada (the conversation between Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Sri Raya Ramananda) is one of the most shining treasures within the Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, written by Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja. Indeed, it is like the Kaustubha-mani, the most brilliant jewel adorning the neck of Sri Krsna Himself. Sri Caitanya-caritamrta is a most unprecedented, gem-like literature containing the siddhanta (trancendental conclusions) of pure devotion. With regards to this, the most repected Srila Narottama dasa Thakura has written the following:
"Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja is an exceptionally high-calss devotional poet. He is also bhavuka, one who is immersed in experiencing the more elevated expressions of divine love. He has composed the unprecedented sacred texts, Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, which describes the pastimes of Sri Gauranga, and Sri Govinda-lilamrta, which depticts the pastimes of Sri Govinda. Both of these books, being cron jewels of trancendental literature, are the best of all contributions."

Today I am most joyful to be able to present this English edition of Sri Prema-samputa to the faithful reader. Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, the highly exalted preceptor and crown jewel of Sri Gaudiya Vaisnava acaryas, has masterfully crafted this incomparable narrative poem in language that is simple, yet replete with deep meaning. Once, Sri Krsna, disguised in the attire of a heavenly damsel, came to Srimati Radhika and stood before Her completely silent. The sight of this incredibly beautiful celestial damsel filled Srimati Radhika with bliss and She became most eager to befriend Her. Srimati Radhika asked Her several questions, but the girl offered no reply...

In this book Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura, describes the secret glories of Sri Navadvipa-dhama that had been hidden by Maya-devi during Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu manifest pastimes.
"Although I am lowly and insignificant, I have described Sri Navadvipa-dhama, only on the order of Sri Nityananda Prabhu and Sri Jahnava-devi."
"It is the verdict of the scriptures that by deliberating on this book at the time of doing parikrama, the benefit one receives increases a hundred-fold."

 | In this book our eternally merciful Gurudeva, Sri Sriman Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja, describes the numerous sacred places of Sri Navadvipa-dhama and introduces many of the holy places in the surrounding area of Sri Gauda-mandala (which includes Bangladesh). The enclosed map of Sri Gauda-mandala offers another dimension of involvement to the reader of this and other books about Sriman Mahaprabhu and His followers. The locations of many places were verifiable, but over time, some places have been forgotten or obscured by changes in landscape, and therefore are not easily located or available for darsana. Sripad Bodhayan Maharaja kindly connected us with Sriman Mukunda Prabhu (Mr. Mukulpada Mitra) from Dhaka, who ensured a successful pilgrimage to Bangladesh to take photos. Both ISKCON temples and Gaudiya-mathas showed their non-sectarian spirit by giving assistance in this regard. We are ever indebted to Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Svami Prabhupada, who revealed to the Western world the glories, pastimes and abodes of Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and His associates. | |

In a very concise manner Srila Das Gosvami has surcharged these eleven verses with the teachings of Sri Gaurasundara, the prema-intoxicated embodiment of the combined forms of Sri Sri Radha-Krsna, His intimate associate Srila Svarup Damodara, and rasacarya Srila Rupa Gosvami. Included is the commentary of Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja and the expanded purport of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura.

An excerpt from a lecture entitled "The Jewel Book":
"Sri Gita-Govinda is a "jewel book" brought by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. We all know that Sri Jayadeva Gosvami has written this beautiful Gita Govinda, but without Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu it would have remained locked like a pearl in the oyster shell or a jewel in a locked case. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu manifested the glories of Sri Gita Govinda. Just as without Srila Rupa Gosvami no one would have known the inner moods of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, similarly, by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu relishing the moods of Sri Gita Govinda its glories became manifest for the whole world. I have explained this very high-class philosophy, but only rare devotees in this world can understand it. I have called you here only to give you this."

 | Srila Sanatana Gosvami's Sri Brhad-bhagavatamrta occupies a special place in the realm of Vaisnava literature. It is unparalleled in its delineation of siddhanta, rasa, bhava and lila. Its glories are limitless, and it is without question one of the most beneficial books for the progressive sadhaka. It is divided into two parts, and both parts tell the story of parivrajaka; that is, one who refuses the comforts of a permanent residence and constantly wanders in search of the essence of life. | |
