Rath Berlin

On the 8th of June we will perform the Jagannatha Shobha-Yatra at the Carneval of Cultures with nearly 1 million visitors. For more information on this visit http://www.karneval-berlin.de/de/

For this time we have chosen a spacious location, where we can all stay together and dive into seva for Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga.

Website of location: http://www.fuchsbau-berlin-wuhlheide.de/
It is called ´Fuchsbau´, which means ´fox´s den´ and is situated at a forest-park in a relaxing environment on the edge of the city, next to the recreational centre FEZ. There is no traffic, there is a öko-island instead (with garden, tropical house, bee-hives), a lake for swimming with a beach, a recreational train and a climbing-forest for adolescents.

The program will be as following:

  • 6th of June: Arrival of guests and Evening program
  • 7th of June: Morning program and Evening program
  • 8th of June: Jagannatha Ratha Yatra at Carneval of Cultures and Evening Program
  • 9th of June: Morning program and Evening Program
  • 10th of June: Morning program

The auspicious morning-arati will be held at 6 am.

Extra information on location and stay:

The hall is ca. 140 square feet. Infront of the house there is a big covered terrace leading to a forest meadow. Each place is perfect for doing Hari-katha, Sankirtana and/or taking Prasadam. The kitchen is spacious and provided with good equipment.

There are 30 to 70 beds available. The building is in a good condition and has a friendly and light athmosphere. The sanitary facilities are suitable and clean. Everything is situated on the ground floor, that makes it friendly to parents and children.

The rooms have bunk-beds. Please bring your own bed linen or rent for €4. Sleeping bags are not allowed because of hygienic reasons.

The Hari-Katha and Sankirtana is extremely enlivening for us - use these blessings for the Japa-Meditation: Chant the Holy Names and Remember the Sweet Krsna-lilas.

Many devotees express the need for silence after the program. With care everybody can contribute to this. Please also consider the following rule: Night´s rest strictly from 10 pm to 5 am, that includes keeping the lights off. Please use flashlights when needed at night.

A practical tip: we ask you please to make sure to organize your night dress and fresh clothes for the next day, strictly before the evening class so as not to disturb the silence in the late evening and early hours of the morning. Instead of plastic-bags use cotton-bags.

On the 8th of June a rock-concert will take place nearby between 7pm - 11pm, think about bringing ear plugs. We expect everything to go well if we all follow these recommendations.

When considering the glories of Sadhu-sanga, some slokas come to my mind:

Gurudeva´s Arati / how to approach the absolute truth (BG 4.34) / sadhu-sanga and their effect (SB 11.3.30) / how to taste the meaning of Srimad Bhagavatam (CC, Madhya-lila 22.131) / 6 symtoms of loving association with devotees (Upadesamrita, vers 4) :

In his book ´Srila Gurudeva The Supreme Treasure´ (Volume 2) Sripada Madhava MJ mercyfully reveals to us a prayer to Srila Gurudeva, ´Srila Gurudeva´s Arati´. He composed it in 2005 in presence of Srila Gurudeva who was quite pleased with this kirtan.

jaya jaya gurudever aratiko sobha
yamuna-tat braja-tirthe bhakta-mana lobha

All glories, all glories to the beautiful arati ceremony of Srila Gurudeva, performed on the banks of the Yamuna in the sacred Braja, attracting the minds of the devotees.

raga-marga siddhantera murtimanta ati
kesavera priya tumi narayana yati

O Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja, you are the complete embodiment of the conclusive truths (siddhantas) of the path of raganuga-bhakti, and you are the beloved sannyasi disciple of Srila Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami Maharaja.

gaura-vani dhupa tava sri vedanta dipa
pascatya pracarakera tumi hao bhupa

In your arati the message of Sri Gaurasundara is the insence, and sri vedanta is the ghee lamp.

You are the monarch among those who preached in the West.

sarasvata-kesava-dhara jala-sanka dhara
palya-dasi madhu-snehe mugdha cara-acara

The water in the conch shell is the current, that is the line of thought of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada and Srila Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Gosvami Maharaja. By the honey-like affection (madhu-sneha) of Sri Radha´s maidservants, Her palya-dasis, all beings – moving and non-moving alike – are enchanted.

tila-phula jinni nasa sri anga sundara
desi videsi bhakta tava puspa sambhara

Your beautiful nose defeats the beauty of sesame flower and your limbs are very beautiful. The Indian and foreign devotees are the flowers and other ingredients of your worship.

sevanande premanada camara dulaya
madhukanthe krsna-dasa nirjana gaya

Sripada Premananda Prabhu waves the camara in the bliss of serving you in uncountable ways, while Krsna dasa sings your arati in a sweet beautiful voice.

mahanande bhakta-vrinda bajaya mridanga
madhava vana akatare mage tava sanga

In great joy, throngs of devotees are playing the mridanga. [But,] Madhava and Vana fervently beg for your association. //

tad viddhi praṇipātena
paripraśnena sevayā
upadekṣyanti te jñānaṁ
jñāninas tattva-darśinaḥ

tad–that knowledge of different sacrifices; viddhi–try to understand; pranipatena–by approaching a spiritual master; pariprasnena–by submissive inquiries; sevayaa–by the rendering of service; upadeksyanti–initiate; te–unto you; jnaninah–the self-realized soul;tattva–truth;darsinah–the seers;

Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth.(BG 4.34)

parasparanu-kathanam
pavanam bhagavad-yasah
mitho ratir-mithas-tustir-
nivrittir-mitha atmanah

One should learn how to associate with the devotees of the Lord by gathering with them to chant the glories of the Lord. This process is most purifying. As devotees develop their loving friendship, they feel mutual happiness and satisfaction. And by encouraging one another they are able to give up material sense gratification, which is the cause of all suffering. (SB 11.3.30)

srimad-bhagavatam artha nama
asvado rasikaih saha
sajati-yasye snigdhe
sadhau sangah svato vare

One should taste the meaning of Srimad Bhagavatam in the association of pure devotees, and one should associate with the devotees who are more advanced than oneself and who are endowed with a similar type of affection for the Lord (CC, Madhya-lila 22.131)

dadāti pratigṛhṇāti
guhyam ākhyāti pṛcchati
bhuṅkte bhojayate caiva
ṣaḍ-vidhaṁ prīti-lakṣaṇam

dadati – offering pure devotees those objects which are in accordance with their requirements;

pratigrihnati – accepting those prasadi or remnant items given by pure devotees

guhyam akhyati – revealing to devotees about one´s confidential realisations concerning bhajan;

pricchati – inquiring from devotees about their confidential realisations;

bhunkte – eating with great love the prasada remnants given by devotees; ca – and;

bhojayate – lovingly serving prasada to devotees; ca – and;

sad-vidham eva – are specifically of these six kinds;

priti-laksanam – the symptoms of loving association with devotees

Offering gifts in charity, accepting charitable gifts, revealing one's mind in confidence, inquiring confidentially, accepting prasada and offering prasada are the six symptoms of love shared by one devotee and another. (Upadesamrita, vers 4)
