    Sri Gurvastakam

I want to give an explanation of Sri Guru – what are the symptoms of a bona fide guru – and to show you examples that have been given in the epics [Vedic scriptures]. You can apply this to your own guru. Our Sri Guru is akhanda-guru-tattva, Sri Baladeva Prabhu or Sri Nityananda Prabhu, so all teachings should be applied to him and to others who are following this... Read More

  • Our Master - His Life

A most endearing hallmark of his preaching was the heart-stealing affection he showed to all. As an uttama-bhāgavata, he entered the deepest recesses of the heart to give the unmistakable reassurance that he is one's eternal well-wisher. The depth of his affection is a tangible reality for all who have experienced it, and this in itself bears subjective testimony to the fact that he was a true emissary of the Supreme Lord.

As long as Śrīla Gurudeva, the beloved of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, is physically manifest, it is wise to render intimate service to him, and thereby attain perfection. But if we are not able to attain perfection because we have failed to develop attachment to him, attachment wherein we consider him to be the lord of our heart; if we have failed to serve him by giving him our full heart in complete sincerity and selflessness, then we have certainly been deprived...

  • The Most Compassionate

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is certainly more intelligent than each and every one of us, and He knows how to make the fallen souls of Kali-yuga best understand His high-level teachings. Indeed, His teachings are comprehensible by all. Still, our misfortune prevails. First, we do not accept His teachings. Second, to impress others with our prowess we mix something of our own with them...

Featured: Brhad Bhagavatamrtam - Canto One

brhad bhag v1 200

The essence of all scriptures such as the Vedas, Vedānta-sūtras, Purāṇas, Itihāsas and so on is Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. By the churning of this Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam the present book has manifested. Therefore, its name is Śrī Bṛhad-Bhāgavatāmṛta. In this book, the subject matters pertaining to devotional service are manifest in every place.

The setting is based on a conversation between Śrī Jaimini and Śrī Janamejaya and Śrī Parīkṣit and Śrī Uttara. On hearing Śrīmad- Bhāgavatam from the mouth of Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī and before the arrival of the Takṣaka serpent, the mother of King Parīkṣit, Śrī Uttara-devī, asked him a question, “O Son, whatever you have heard from Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī, tell me its essence in a simple, easy-to-understand language.” This book begins with that same question.

tn gurudeva handSo, every quality can be used in the service of Krsna. If skills and talents are used in this way, that is very good; they must not be used for sense gratification. At the same time, let us also consider this fact: Srila Sanatana Gosvami had a touchstone. He never used it for himself, and in fact he never used it at all...

tn snanaEarly on the morning of Saturday, July 13, 2013, under a clear blue sky, when most of the city was still fast asleep, a special corner of the northwestern part of Houston, Texas was pulsating with activity. Four years ago, this land had been consecrated in an elaborate bhumi-puja conducted under the guidance of Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja, and the following year, had received its first foundation stone from Gurudeva's own lotus hands...

tn vyasapujaIt is the custom in our Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Sampradaya that any acarya who is widely spreading Krsna consciousness in the line of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Srila Rupa Gosvami under the guidance of Sri Krsna Dvaipayana Vyasadeva will worship Srila Vyasadeva and the guru-parampara on his birthday. This worship is called Guru-puja and also Vyasa-puja.

tn forgpIf one wants to advance in bhakti, he should try to understand these topics. Simply thinking, "Not this, not this, not this, will not suffice." If positive understanding and moods are there, then you will be successful. Along with absorption in the positive there must also be negation of the negative, otherwise, you cannot advance. At the same time, absorption in negation will not help you very much...

tn responsiblity1A question is raised, and intelligent devotees should think it over. Why did so many devotees leave Srila Bhaktivedanta Svami Maharaja's line? Why did they become weak? They took harinama initiation and diksa initiation, they rendered services to him, they remained with him in the brahmacarya asrama, and some even took sannyasa. They served in numerous ways, distributing thousands of books and becoming the 'number one' or 'number two' distributors in the entire world...
