Sri Caitanya Caritamrta, manifested by Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami, is the crown jewel of Gaudiya Vaishnava literature. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada had once said that if for some reason all the Vaishnava literature, except Sri Caitanya Caritamrta, disappear from this world, still the deliverance of the entire world would be possible, due to the presence of this glorious scripture. Sri Caitanya Caritamrta has three parts—Adi-Lila, Madhya-Lila and Antya-Lila. The present edition is the Hindi translation of the original Sri Caitanya Caritamrta in Bengali, published by Gaudiya Vedanta Samiti Trust. In this edition, not only the three commentaries ('Amrta Pravaha Bhasya' of Srila Bhakti Vinoda Thakur, 'Anubhasya' commentary of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada, and 'Amrtanukana' commentary of Sri Bhaktivedanta Vamana Gosvami Maharaja) from the original Bengali edition of GVST have been included but along with that a special commentary, 'Amrtanukanika' as instructed by Srila Gurudeva, Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja has been added. This commentary is based on the relevant articles from Gaudiya Patrika and some books provided by Srila Gurudeva from his library and his lectures, which makes this edition all the more magnificent.

This first volume discusses the in-depth ontological details of six principles (Guru, Isa-bhaktas, Isvara, Isavatara, Isa-prakasam, and Isa-sakti) each having distinct features which are diversities of the same Absolute Truth. The reasons for the appearance of Sri Krsna as Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu are also explained.

This second part of Adi-Lila specifically mentions that If a jiva wants to get liberated he has to take the shelter of the most munificent Mahaprabhu. Here in, Srila Kaviraja Gosvami has compared Bhakti to a tree. Mahaprabhu is both the gardener and the trunk of this Bhakti tree. From the trunk of this tree extend two branches, namely Sri Nityananda Prabhu and Sri Advaita Prabhu. These two branches further grow into other branches. This tree surrounds the entire world and its fruits are to be distributed to everyone. It further describes Mahaprabhu's birth pastime, His childhood pastimes like crawling, crying, and eating dirt, His marriage to Laksmidevi, and post her disappearance His marriage with Visnupriyadevi. One can also read in this part of Adilila, Mahaprabhu’s argument with Kesava Kasmiri, the celebrated scholar, and His mercy upon Chand Kazi.

Śrī Rūpa Gosvāmī meets Mahāprabhu for the second time and narrates his grantha. The pastime of Śivānanda and his dog. Mahāprabhu’s rejection of Choṭā Haridāsa. The glories of Haridāsa Ṭhākura, the glories of the holy Name. Mahāprabhu’s second meeting with Śrī Sanātana. The association of Pradyumna Miśra with Rāmānanda Rāya. Dāsa Gosvāmī’s pastime and grand celebration. Mahāprabhu’s meeting with Vallabha Bhaṭṭa, and His reduction of food due to the sarcasm of Rāmacandra Purī. Rāghava’s jhāli (sack), testing the servitor’s service, and [Mahāprabhu’s] dance. The Disappearance pastime of Haridāsa Ṭhākura, Mahāprabhu rejecting the oil brought by Jagadānanda. The showing of anger by Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu on Śivānanda Sena. Jagadānanda’s journey to Vṛndāvana, Mahāprabhu’s listening to a song from a devadāsī and His conversation with Raghunātha Bhaṭṭa. Mahāprabhu’s transcendental madness, attainment of Vṛndāvana during the meditative state, and searching for Śrī Kṛṣṇa. The pastime of Kālidāsa honoring the remnants of the Vaiṣṇavas, the pastime of Kavi Karṇapūra’s infancy. Mahāprabhu describes the glories of the remnant of the nectar of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s lips, the state wherein He is merged totally in ecstatic emotion while He is amongst the cows, His transcendental ecstasy in the sea, and His vipralambha state. Description of Śikṣāṣṭakam, a brief summary of the Antya-līlā and the grantha ends; also the humility of the author has been described.

This volume starts with a brief description of the Madhya and Antya Lila. Herein, the pastimes of Mahaprabhu accepting Sannyasa order at Katwa, His meeting with all Navadvipa devotees, in particular His mother Sacidevi and her request to Mahaprabhu to primarily stay at Nilacala, have been described. Further, the stories of Madhavendra Puri's pure devotional service to Sri Gopala, Sri Gopinath stealing ksira for him have been narrated in this part. A narration of the story of Saksi Gopala by Sri Nityananda Prabhu and later breaking the sannyasa staff of Mahaprabhu, Mahaprabhu's argument with Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya, and mercifully revealing His true identity to him and making him a devotee. Description of Mahaprabhu's tour to South India, the famous conversation with Sri Raya Ramananda, His stay for four months at Sri Venkata Bhatt's place, Visiting Udupi, and defeating the Tattva-Vadis in a scriptural debate. Gundica Temple cleansing and revealing its confidential meaning, the ecstatic Dance of Mahaprabhu at Ratha-yatra, exhibiting various symptoms of transcendental ecstasy, and blissful exchange of emotions between Lord Jagannatha and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Further, Mahaprabhu getting pleased with King Prataparudra by his recital of Gopi-gita verses and bestowing mercy by embracing him.

The second part of Madhya-Lila describes the instructions of Mahaprabhu to the householder devotees to exclusively engage themselves in the chanting of the Holy Name, the deep love of Sri Gadadhara Pandit for Mahaprabhu, when he is instructed to stay at Nilacala, despite his desire to travel to Vrindavana along with Him. Mahaprabhu meeting Sri Rupa and Sanatana Gosvami at Ramkeli, Mahaprabhu's travel to Vrindavana again with Balbhadra Bhattacharya through forests of Jharkhanda, His visit with Tapana Misra at Varanasi, thereafter, His visit to twelve forests of Vrindavana, and having darsana of Sri Gopala at Ganthuli-grama. On the way back to Nilacala, Mahaprabhu meeting Sri Rupa Gosvami at Prayaga and manifesting Rasa-tattva in his heart. Sri Santana Goswami's escape from prison and meeting Mahaprabhu at Varanasi, where Mahaprabhu imparted him the knowledge of Absolute Truth, sambandha jnana, abhidheya-tattva, and prem-tattva. Further, Mahaprabhu's sixty-one different explanations of 'Atmaramas ca' verse of Srimad Bhagavatam have also been elaborated. Explanation by Mahprabhu of bhakti in terms of Vedanta-sutra and how Srimad Bhagavatam is the real commentary of Vedanta-sutra to Prakashananda Sarasvati and other Mayavadi sannyasis, who then became devotees of Mahaprabhu.

This book progressively presents teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu relevant to all sections of human society and clarifies how these teachings may be practically applied in the modern world. Containing the essence of the Vedas, the teachings are a wonderful rainfall of nectar that douses the forest fire of the quarrels and hypocrisy in this present age of Kali. The book is divided into eight "rainfalls of nectar", and each of these is sub-divided into "showers of instruction".
